And So It Went

And so it went
With the beat of my chest
Or my heart trying to break free
As I waited for the results

Would I be here
If so, for how long

Long enough to see another summer’s day
Or feel another cool winter’s breeze

Long enough to hear their voice say
“Good morning, babe”
Or “How was your day?”

Long enough to see first steps
Or hear the teens croon

Long enough to wonder if life was worth it all
Or if I should’ve dreamt bigger

Triggers
Of the mind aging
Unlike fine wine
Getting worse as if this curse was enjoying my pain
Slain
Slayed
There goes my consciousness again

And so it went
