Irreconcilable love

He told me he loved me

but when he was asked to define

from what vines he created those words

i heard

nothing.

You see,

He was in love with the idea of being in love

believing it was guided by the “Man Above”

yet unable to stomach the impossibility of the inevitability of love.

You see,

this was all he had left

this was his last chance

and he would use it all up ’til his last breath

because he lost the first breath to her

not only once but twice:

First time when she said “hello”

and second,

when she said “goodbye.”

Goodbye to the walks down the old trail near the old oak tree,

you see…

Goodbye to the hot summers and rain baths in over 80 degrees,

you see…

Goodbye to date nights knocking down bowling pins because on wigs were all she could spend,

you see…

it became hard for him to believe that his heart would shatter and forever be splattered

on the hospital floor,

only 3 inches away from the hospital door

and 5 centimeters from her bare head,

finally resting,

glistening from the sweat that presented itself as she took her last…

breath.

His love had succumb to death

and all that was left

was a hope for tomorrow,

a wish for better days,

and faith that God would take his pain away.

So, you see…

the irreconcilability of falling endlessly for me

cannot be forseen

for she

still holds

his heart. His love. His impossibly, inevitable starvation

for love.

You see,

he told me he loved me

but when he was asked to define

from what vines he created those words

i heard

nothing…

but her.
